Traditional art – reflections from places near and far
Traditionally, the work of local women involved domestic tasks and relied on expertise passed from generation to generation.
Working predominantly with fibres and textiles was a skill that required nimble fingers and a certain amount of dexterity, and one which was shrouded in mystery as it was passed discreetly from grandmother to mother, mother to daughter. It forms a valuable part of our heritage.
Each part of this mural illustrates a different craft which the women of our region carried out and is almost like an outdoor art gallery. You will see various illustrations which are the work of local and national/international artists. It provides a clear testament to the importance of networking amongst artists from near and far and a tribute to the creative potential that is abundant in our local environment.
