The lonely one
Sponsored by an anonymous donor, ‘L’esseulée’ is the most recent work of Roger Langevin, and tells the story of the highly publicized suicide of a young teenage girl from Gaspésie.
The work is made up of twelve individual fibreglass sections which will be put on display in the four corners of Québec. The illustration shows three larger than life teenagers sitting on two benches which are placed on a rectangular platform of more than four metres in length. Each figure represents a different facet of the phenomenon known as ‘intimidation’: The Bully, the witness and the victim. The empty spaces on the bench, where the victim is sitting, allow onlookers to come and sit close to offer comfort, essentially to take a stand against the bully.
